Bar Swords

OK now that you're sitting there wondering to yourself just what the hell is wrong with me with the title of this post, and I also want to mention that I have you wondering and the name is The Wonderblog so I could say mission accomplished and leave it right there.
Then again those that know me know perfectly well that I can't stop there, not when I have a good story to tell! Well anyway as the title says, Bar Swords, I was sitting here the other day and just happened to be watching Pirates of the Caribbean again on HBO or some other channel. I am not sure just how many times I have watched this movie but it really cracks me up every time I see it.
As I was watching the movie, it made me think of something that I haven't thought of in a very long time. The time was when I was very small, I am not quite sure if I had even started school yet, we were living in Blaine,WA or somewhere close. As you can tell it's a little fuzzy, some of the details anyway but let me go on.
I remember during the day we would sometimes stop by my mothers work, at least I believe that's where she worked, it was a small bar. At least I know she worked for the man who owned the bar, his name was Joe Miiller and yes I spelled it correctly, and many years later this man would become my stepfather. Anyway I was always amazed at the way the bar looked when we visited, there was never really anyone there when we stopped there, and it was still dark and mysterious in there.
At this point in your reading you're on the brink, the point is coming or this twit has lost his freakin mind are probably the two things going through your mind, got you wondering some more! Anyway we would go there and I would get either a glass of coke or Pepsi, not a kid's restaurant glass but a low ball glass (no I didn't know the name of it then) with ice in it, and because way back then as I still am today I like maraschino cherries which always came on this very tiny little plastic sword!
On that little sword there would be at least 3 and sometimes 4 cherries!!! As I ate them one by one slowly and savoring the cherries I would slowly uncover this little plastic sword that would slowly and magically transform me into a swashbuckling pirate or a musketeer, and in my mind would challenge any and all with my incredible prowess with my sword!!!
I decided to share this for no particular reason other than it is something that makes me smile, and it is something that makes me think about Joe who is no longer with us and who I miss very much. I hope you enjoyed the story, and I hope you come back again to read some more! Have a great day!
